Pregnancy is a period when we feel a lot of discomfort, but can hardly do much to find relief. At Charm Salon & Spa they offer a pregnancy back massage that, according to Desiree Fermin, the salon’s masseuse, can be done after the fifth month of pregnancy. She also told me that her grandma used to do this treatment for all the pregnant ladies back in her village the Philippines, which is where she learned this ancient technique. To my delight, I’m more than five months and could enjoy it. She started by putting me on my side in a comfortable position so she could access my back. The pressure was not that strong but enough to relieve soft knots and work on the constant lower back pain, which I believe all pregnant woman must feel when the belly starts getting heavier. After finishing with my back and shoulders, she turned me and rubbed my belly with gentle strokes. To finalise the pampering session she gave me a foot massage that perfectly complemented the relaxation. This treatment can be done once a month (after the fifth month) until you reach the ninth month when you can enjoy it every week to help with your delivery. The salon also offers a full range of beauty services in hair, nails, skin and body using the latest products and techniques available. Charm Salon & Spa is the only beauty centre in Bahrain to offer Fitosauna, a wooden barrel herbal steam treatment used to improve skin texture, brought to the island straight from Siberia.
