I don’t like (or don’t know how to introduce) colour into looks in a way that I feel comfortable with. However, in your “Get the Look” this month, I really enjoyed the way you paired the khaki shade (a sober hue that I think I might be able to wear) with pastel tones. I believe I can use the same trick of pairing pastel colours with my monochrome pieces. Thank you for the precious tip, I’m sure I’ll be more adventurous next time I go shopping! Regards, Trish World traveller, I love all sorts of trips that involve water, I’m not the best swimmer or a diving enthusiast, but I like to be close to it. So during my holidays I try to look for destinations with heavenly beaches and lakes, but I never thought of waterfalls! For my next holiday I’ll seriously consider one of the places you mentioned in your “Incredible Escapes” page in your March issue. The Plitvice Falls in Croatia seems to be amazing and I’m definitely researching more about it. Thank you! Best wishes, Tara The WTM Fan of the Month Contest has been a major hit on Facebook. 24 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Flowers on clothing and accessories are starting to become a classic and not a trend anymore, as we’ve seen the colourful blossoms year after year. However, there is always a new way to showcase them. This time, they come big and bold in different floral arrangements or camouflaged into another print. We can spot a variety of specimens appearing in one big print or in abstract forms. Large coloured petals or black and white sketches create an outstanding effect to dresses, skirts and tops. The novelty interpretation of this summer’s pattern is the trendy way of wearing this traditional motif. Blugirl and Missoni added floral sketches to their military and zigzagged prints. Valentino’s dress recalls vintage flair with a patchwork of patterns and bright colours. 28 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Many brands went back in time to find inspiration in the period of hippie mania, psychedelic prints and the beginning of the disco era. Loads of colours and a back to nature lifestyle influenced the catwalks of the spring and summer collections. Not only the typical patterns of the decade, but also its designs. Bell-bottomed trousers and wide sleeves temper the season’s style. Vests and fringes are also symbols of the trend which are explored this season. The cuts, brought back straight from the past, get a modern twist so we don’t end up in a time machine. Retro prints can be spotted in the catwalk shows of brands such as Louis Vuitton and Emilio Pucci. The hippie mood from the beginning of the seventies is revived by Alberta Ferretti and Chloe. 32 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Gingham plaid comes from the table straight to your wardrobe. The geometric pattern, usually used in tablecloths and printed in cotton materials, is now being featured in high-end brands’ racks. Mixed and matched with other motifs or appearing by itself; the grids have simple colour combinations such as pink and white, blue and white or even the most traditional, black and white. Often worn during summer, the small squares became popular in the ‘50s, but then lost their glamour. This season will see gingham's return in great style as it’s been spotted in many fashion shows. Dresses, skirts and accessories were covered with this uncomplicated, fresh and fun design. Altuzarra and Diane Von Furstenberg kept the small and typical way of showing this print. 34 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Summer is a synphony of bright colours, we all agree on that. However, some fashion houses decided the hot season would be the ideal moment to embrace an all-white (or at least mostly white) look. The ivory shade is perfect for the Middle East heat, the colour reflects light, which means we, technically, feel fresher when opting for it. The colour is widely worn in casual looks – T-shirts, shorts and cotton dresses. When used in more sophisticated fabrics and tailored trousers the hue conquers a highend status. Laser cuts, lace and embroidery transform the pieces making them more elegant or relaxed depending on the material and how it is applied. 38 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Mixing and matching different patterns is an art mastered by few people. You must look for colour and shape co-ordination to achieve a good final look. It’s easy to get lost along the way and end up with a terrible result. The designers definitely know how to make it work and their collections this season are a great inspiration for those colour lovers looking for an exciting way to dress-up. 40 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend Next to the trend for flesh-baring transparency, we spotted the laser cut or net technique widely spread in the spring and summer fashion shows. The laser cutting method has been used in past collections, mainly in haute couture designs. However, now technology has made it available to mass manufactures, hence it’s became commonplace to see laser cut silk and leather in ready-to-wear collections. The extreme accuracy, clean cuts and sealed fabric edges to prevent fraying make this method of design very popular in the fashion industry. It’s also suitable for many different materials such as silk, leather, nylon, neoprene, polyester and cotton. The wow effect is guaranteed and you can create original patterns or just squares to get the desired effect. Some brands didn’t go for the laser cut method but rather used knitted fabrics or materials that create the same perforated result. Tod’s and Versace opted for the technological option, while Proenza Schouler, Altuzarra and Balenciaga found other ways to get the trend into their collections. 46 April 2015 www.womanthismonth.com FASHION | trend What do gold miners and the catwalks from the spring and summer collections have in common? Denim! Icons such as James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Marlon Brando transformed the ranch hand’s favourite into a symbol of youth rebellion introducing it to the urban dress code and making it a staple of casual style. The different washes and chemical processes the fabric goes through define its colour and texture. From very light to dark shades of blue, denim can be found in an array of clothing pieces, with pants being the most traditional way of wearing it. However, the material can also be used in shoes and handbags. Bottega Veneta and Gucci transformed it into ladylike dresses while Chloe, Leonard and Joseph gave a fashionable twist to the workwear jumpsuit converting it into a must-have piece for the season. www.womanthismonth.com 55 April 2015 The general perception of dental braces, also known as orthodontic braces, is that they are only used to align or straighten teeth. However, they also help to improve your bite and dental health at the same time. Braces are often used to correct malocclusions like underbites, overbites, crossbites, open bites, deep bites and various other flaws of the teeth and jaw. “Braces are required to correct the position of the teeth, aiding in achieving a better smile, reducing food impactions and gum infections. They are also often used in the correction of jaw positions,” says Royal Bahrain Hospital’s orthodontist Dr Rajeesh Radhakrishnan. “If left untreated, these problems can result in tooth decay, gum disease, headaches and earaches as well as speaking, biting or chewing problems.” Patients with orthodontic problems can benefit from treatment at nearly any age. An ideal age for getting braces is between 10 and 14 years but braces aren't just for kids, as more and more adults are also wearing them to correct minor problems and to improve their smiles. Most adults tend to shy away from orthodontic treatment, mostly because of the common perception that braces are for children. “Now at the Royal Dental Studio, we offer concealed or lingual as well as clearpath invisible braces that are well hidden from the sight of others. Only you and your dentist would know that they are there,” says Dr Radhakrishnan. Call the Royal Dental Studio at 17246800 or visit www. royalbahrainhospital.com for booking and more information.
