40 November 2015 www.womanthismonth.com VLCC IMMEDIATE VISIBLE RESULTS Liz O’Reilly got a leg-up in the battle against the dreaded cellulite with a Slimsonic treatment. OK, contrary to what some men believe, it might well be every woman’s dream to eat whatever she wants without piling on the pounds. But, since the laws of physics tell us that’s an impossibility, then the idea of a treatment that can, with minimal fuss, actually smooth out the orange-peel skin which affects more than 90 per cent of us, has to come a close second. When I was invited to VLCC at Zinj to try out the Slimsonic treatment, I had no idea what to expect but, and yes I’m bragging, having recently lost more than 10kg, I was more than happy with the idea of a boost for my nonexistent exercise regime. Slimsonic uses a combination of suction, radio frequency waves and lymphatic drainage to combat stubborn fat and, though therapist Prasuna offered to work on my mid-section, I decided my thighs were in most need of help – the measurements she took at three spots on each leg more than confirmed my opinion. The treatment started with the G5 vibration machine, similar to a very vigorous massage, which is used to warm the skin’s layers and get the circulation going, then after around 10 minutes it was on to the Slimsonic. Three quick shots of suction are applied showcase in a grid across the target area, the machine multitasks by applying heat and radio frequency waves at the same time to penetrate the seven layers of skin and into the subcutaneous fat layer below. I must admit, I found it quite uncomfortable, particularly on my inner thighs where there is, naturally, more loose flesh. The sensation is like being repeatedly pinged with an elastic band, stinging rather than painful and the session is quite short so it’s definitely not unbearable. After a couple of minutes Prasuna upgraded to four shots, which I’ll confess had me gripping the sides of the bed. But again, this only goes on for a few minutes and, in anticipation of results, I bit my lip and endured. Next she used the same machine to perform drainage, rubbing up and down with firm, even, heated strokes to release the toxins removed by the suction and radio frequency blasts. These are naturally eliminated from the body. Prasuna finished with a gentle massage using anti-cellulite oil then it was time for the moment of truth as she took my measurements. I was amazed to see that, in just one treatment, I had lost a total of 4.5cm on my right thigh and, a very respectable, 3cm on the left, which was already thinner due to scar tissue from an earlier operation. Don’t get me wrong, I’m never going to be sylph-like and I personally the find the thigh-gap phase quite unattractive (not to mention unattainable), but with this treatment, I can actually see the end of cellulite in my future and, though I did have a few bruises the next day, I’ll be heading back to see what the recommended five or six treatments can achieve.
