www.womanthismonth.com 33 November 2015 What are some of the most intrinsic qualities one associates with the sea, when it is not showing its tyrannous side that is? The lapping sounds of waves, tranquility, serenity and overall azure calmness. Nestled inside the Diplomat Radisson Blue Hotel Residence & Spa is a space that emanates these very attributes in addition to offering a host of mineral goodness harvested from the sea. The Diplomat Spa has harnessed the best of nature and offers it in the forms of ambience and service at this facility. A low-lit area, with air infused with invigorating lemon grass oil, the spa cuts you off from the busy surroundings of the Diplomatic Area and transports you to a peaceful haven. It is so calm you soon find yourself speaking in whispers. Upon arrival I was given a tour of the sprawling facility with separate men’s and women’s sections. Everything’s been kept very Zen, promoting the synergy of natural elements such as cobble stones, dark wood and flowing water. The treatment rooms are named after flowers and are spacious cabins with en-suite bathrooms. A refreshing touch is the windows that overlook the garden, giving the sense of being close to nature while ejoying your treatment. The glass is, of course, tinted from outside, ensuring complete privacy but, for those not comfortable with the idea, the blinds can be pulled down. My therapist, Urmila, escorted me to the changing room and showed me my locker which contained a fluffy bathrobe and other accessories. Changed and snug, I headed towards the treatment room. She then explained what the treatment, Sea Holistic, was all about. The 60-minute session was to combine the benefits of sea minerals and lavender with Thaistyle massage stokes, that resulted in absolute bliss. Sea boluses are small bundles of muslin containing marine salt crystals and dry lavender leaves that are steam heated. A dry mixture, the boluses actually feel course on the skin when slid on, awakening the dermis as they are rubbed along the body. After this, a mildly fragrant lotion is massaged on to the body, followed by a second round of steaming boluses. The products used are by French brand Phytomer, a leader in marine-based beauty therapy. The massage works on multiple levels as the coarse boluses exfoliate your skin, while the steaming mineral penetrates it, revealing a radiant layer; the massage strokes release muscular tension and stimulate the Sen Energy lines. The warmth and fragrance of the pouches relaxes your mind. In other words this treatment is the most powerful sleep inducer you can find. I heard Urmila telling me that it was over and almost replied back “five more minutes, Ma”. Well, I felt refreshed, limber with all the knots kneaded away and had a glow, as noticed by some of my colleagues back at work. What: Sea Holistic Where: The Diplomat Spa Favourite Feature: The feeling of being away from the city and amidst nature and the almost hypnotic smells that send you off to a wonderful slumber.
