81 www.womanthismonth.com March 2014 July 2013 Brazil Combining the fiery rhythms of samba, the overwhelming energy of the famous carnival and the urban-exotic touch of Rio, designer Christian Beck’s latest collection takes us on a journey into the heart of Brazil. There can never be a bad time to travel to the world’s fifth largest country. The list of activities and places to see require a little more time than your week-long getaway. We suggest you set aside at least three weeks for this holiday, especially if you’re going for the first time. You can tan and mingle with the locals on the country’s endless coastline, from Rio’s glamorous Copacabana to the unspoiled treasures along the north-eastern shores. Take a boat ride to Iguaçu’s raging waterfalls, or spot exotic wildlife at Pantanal while trekking through the Amazon. Indulge in retail therapy at Sao Paulo’s chic boutiques and dive into the vibrant mix of colours, rhythms and cultures that this country boasts. Galicia, Spain The quaint coastline of north-west Spain made its way into Uma Wang’s spring-summer 2014 collection, which embraces long sombre silhouettes. She revealed a romantic collection of gowns and dresses inspired by Galicia. From soft and fine white sands that merge gently into a sparkling, calm blue sea, and myriad hues of green lent by the pine wood forests, this colour palette is cool and comforting — perfect for summer. Although much of the country’s shoreline is heavily built-up, the long, indented coast of Galicia is lined with untarnished sandy strands backed by pine woods and dunes. The beaches are its main selling point in summer. The region’s towns and fantastic seafood are big draws as well.
