Woman This Month - July 2017

July 2017 www.womanthismonth.com showcase 38 Arriving at this citadel-like property, I was met by therapist Gloria who would be with me throughout my Thalassa Escape. She explained that my package would be in four parts, all using the seawater and sea minerals for which the spa is known. As the only Thalassa facility in the region, Sofitel is justly proud of its unique offering and has come up with innovative ways to use this precious natural resource. I started off with the Affusion Scrub, lying under a saltwater shower rack while Gloria applied rough sea salt to my skin to help release toxins. The horizontal shower, which sends jets along the whole body as you lie supine, is an incredibly relaxing experience. Next came the seawater hydromassage – immersion in a giant tub with 300 jets whooshing at pressure points to get the circulation going. When you’re suffering from a bad back, there is one word for this: BLISS! Gloria kept checking to make sure I wasn’t overheating or dizzy but I could, quite honestly, have stayed in the bath all day – or at least until I turned into a prune. What followed was the Marine Body Rub. Slathered liberally in a gel containing sea minerals and algae to remineralise my skin, I was wrapped in foil and an electric heating blanket and left to relax for 20 minutes. I must admit, I’m not a huge fan of heat treatments but it was worth it as my skin did come out feeling incredibly soft and clean. My indulgent afternoon finished with a Swedish massage which left me ready to face the rest of the working week with vigour. If you’re looking to pamper yourself, I’d highly recommend the Thalassa Escape for two hours of sheer indulgence. Call: 17 636-363.
