Woman This Month - July 2013

104 July 2013 www.womanthismonth.com Let’s deconstruct this notion of change. When first uttered, it can inject an emotion of fear, unfamiliarity and awkwardness. The question to ask here is: Why be fearful of the unknown? To embrace change is the key. For so many of womankind, the aspiration and dream to be greeted by marriage by the age of 25, followed by a renegade of child starship style troopers by 30, has been an embedded fairytale. What a lot of us over time have come to realise is that our once set expectations are not laid out plans, but merely expectations we set for ourselves without accepting the realisation of change! I can remember my friend once saying, “The key to a good life is feeling complete. That doesn’t mean having everything; it’s having everything that’s right for you.” Momentary emotion or not, I couldn’t agree more. Our ambitions and passions in life are ever evolving. That’s what makes the journey of life all the more interesting. Looking back on the visionary checklist I once acquired in my mind does make me laugh, only to realise those once set plans were a reflection of what society told me I should be, not what I wanted to be. It was then that I started to respect the value of change, prioritising my ambition to succeed in my job, preparing to withstand the obstacles that faced me in my journey; injecting a positive wave of change in to my life. With this virtual checklist came the desire to be married to my very own fresh prince, what I like to refer to as the romantic quarter of my checklist. Needless to say, time, experience and the acceptance of change played a key part in choosing my life long partner, as well as his excellent knowledge on global culture! I found myself admitting what was right for me, releasing that fear of the unknown and letting go of my negative choices. Confidence and self belief can be the key to unlocking that door to change. A new, stronger you equates to a better you. Try it; there is no better feeling! Changing our day to day habits, from the food we eat to the music we listen to, can play a crucial role in self belief and change, releasing a positive and vibrant energy that not only makes you smile, but those around you, too. Change without regret. Whatever positive changes we choose to make in life are our own and our biggest critic is ourselves. Let’s not forget that the choices we deem at any given time as being correct are all part of that much bigger puzzle that, with change and experience in hand, will inevitably piece itself perfectly together. A New Path WTM speaks There comes a point in every woman’s life, no matter how successful or content we feel when we sit back and assess the notion of change. Should or shouldn’t we? There are many factors that can affect our choices for executing change. The right job, the right partner, even the right style of peep-toe Jimmy Choos’, are all subject to change.
