The décor is equally impressive and features magnificent mirrors and soft lighting complemented with carmine-coloured drapes sweeping from the ceiling. The dark wood fixtures harmonise the neutral-coloured seating, creating a Zen-like ambience. The varied menu lists Cantonese, Szechuan, Beijing and Hong Kong specialties. The restaurant manager, a jolly man by the name of Mico, enlightened us on the best sellers and we placed our order soon after. He also mentioned the restaurant has with cashew nuts and steamed sea bass with black bean sauce. The meat for the sizzler was tender and soft, and both the chicken dishes were wonderfully savoury. My favourite was the sea bass because of its robust flavour and flaky texture. The vegetables used in all the preparations were variously baby corn, mushrooms, beans, carrots, broccoli and other more exotic choices. For dessert, we went with lychee salad with mango sherbet and toffee bananas with ice cream. The sweet flesh of the lychee stood in sharp contrast to the tangy sherbet, a match made in heaven. The hard toffee shell encased steaming hot banana pieces that tasted divine, especially when paired with the homemade vanilla ice cream. As always, Soie lived up to its reputation and left us itching to go back again. Call 17 533-533. monthly promotions that are well worth enquiring about. There was a couple tucked away in one corner enjoying a romantic date, a large family celebrating and, at the other end, some businessmen enjoying a working meal. This truly is a venue for every occasion. The appetisers arrived in a matter of minutes – siomai with chicken and fried wontons. With a dash of soy sauce, the siomai dumplings were delectable. The light and crispy wontons were an ideal starter to whet our appetites for the rest of the courses. I made a mental note of the impeccable service as the main course was laid out on the table. The kitchen must have the fastest chefs in the world! Mico suggested trying a number of main courses, so we had a feast in front of us.
