Woman This Month - October 2025

womanthismonth.com | OCTOBER 2025 WEDDINGS 57 It is an unexpected harmony between love, ambition and the culinary industry. As a chef and public figure, I have always lived to feed people, but love has reshaped my understanding of hospitality. Hosting is no longer only about beautiful plates, perfect menus or pleasing palates, it is about nourishing my guests’ hearts, family and loved ones while strengthening my own emotional wellbeing as a wife, chef and cultural ambassador. Hospitality is written into my DNA, from early childhood memories of preparing Karak Chai and Gahwa with dates from the local Riffa souq for our Majlis table, helping my mother and brothers set the food, or joyfully engaging with guests and greeting them graciously. The very essence of sharing whatever you have with another person adds more barakah (blessing) into your life. When I am asked what being Bahraini means, I say that as a chef and cultural ambassador I carry the soul of my island kingdom to tables across the world, proving that a single meal and hospitable experience can bridge oceans and borders. Generosity is the quiet art of giving without measure, where even the smallest gesture has the power to nourish hearts. Simple gestures like cooking a comforting meal with your spouse, placing fresh flowers in the room or setting a table together that invites conversation carry the greatest meaning. These small, personal touches speak louder than any elaborate display or superficial grandeur. No matter how hectic my schedule, I make time to do them myself. There is quiet joy in rolling dough with your own hands, tasting a sauce until it sings, or lighting candles before guests arrive. Hosting with my husband has become one of our favourite shared rituals. We plan menus, chop vegetables side by side and laugh through inevitable spills and surprises. It is more than preparing food; it is a practice in collaboration and patience, a reminder that balance begins at home. Culinary Diplomacy and Global Representation This year, my professional journey further ignited into the role of culinary diplomacy. From hosting Bahrain’s National Day celebration in Ottawa, Canada at the prestigious Coconut Lagoon, where dignitaries gathered over Bahraini flavours, to designing avant-garde fine dining experiences that wove Canadian ingredients with Bahraini soul, every event carried the joy and weight of representing my homeland abroad. Through my work with the Canadian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, I have had the privilege of championing cross-cultural culinary promotion and storytelling as well. I have fused Bahraini heritage with Canadian ingredients in creative, unexpected ways. From dishes like Halwa Showaiter Nanaimo Bars and Harees Fritters to Duck Mabooch Perogies, each plate fosters collaboration and connection, even for those away from home. My goal has been to bridge cultures, spark conversation and instil pride in Bahraini flavours while introducing them to a global audience. This recognition and appreciation of my work reaffirms the power of food as a universal language, one that celebrates heritage while fostering meaningful connections. Through my brand, House of Khaleej, I have brought Bahraini food to some of Canada’s most iconic settings: a Bahraini Majlis art installation at Toronto Pearson International Airport, a Muskoka lakeside dining collaboration with Take Your Seat and Terrawoods, street-style aloo basheer chaat and kabsa pulao at Union Station, open-fire Bahraini loomi tikka at Stackt Market and a year-long culinary partnership with Bar Mordecai, one of the world’s 50 best bars. Each dish celebrates the communal spirit of eating with hands, sharing stories and honouring locally sourced ingredients. Legacy, Balance and Purpose The hustle and very nature of my industry can be relentless, but love and purpose teach me to pause, reflect and replenish. In the truest sense, they help navigate sustainability and longevity as a culinarian. True success is not only about conquering milestones; it is about creating a legacy for the generation ahead; for those who look like us, who come from humble beginnings and who may one day find courage in our journey. Through faith, hard work and the support of loved ones, growth is possible. I hope my story empowers the next generation of Bahrainis to dream bigger, work with intention and lead with purpose.
