For nearly 20 years, I fought a silent battle with depression. On the outside, I looked like I was holding it all together in my business, body and marriage. Inside, I was shutting down. I tried supplements, alcohol and every ‘quick fix’ the wellness and medical industries pushed. None of it worked. When I became pregnant, I made a life-changing decision: I quit drinking. That was over 15 years ago, and it became a turning point in my life. Unfortunately, my depression didn’t disappear just because I stopped drinking. The heaviness, the exhaustion, the disconnection … they all remained. I wish someone had told me back then that you don’t have to wait until you’re clinically depressed to seek support. So many of us live in that in-between space of not ‘sick’ yet not fully alive either. Maybe you’ve caught yourself saying “I’m fine” when you knew you weren’t. That’s masking, and while it can get us through a moment, it also blocks us from the deeper healing our nervous system is begging for. My work today is about prevention. It’s not about managing stress; we are building resilience to it. Stress management often feels like putting a bandage on a wound that never heals.
