www.womanthismonth.com October 2017 6 Summer is finally waning and we’re starting to look towards the glorious cooler days of autumn, which means it’s time to update the wardrobe. If you’re planning to invest in some newseason retail therapy, then hold that thought until you’ve checked out our big fashion feature, starting on page 25. From the return of plaid to glorious glitter, we’ve studied the season’s latest trends from the world’s coolest catwalks and come up with ways for you to adapt them into your own wardrobe. Our interview section this month features an exclusive chat with award-winning Saudi film director Reem Al-Bayyat, whose penchant for tackling the difficult issues sometimes faced by women in her homeland makes for compulsive viewing. I caught up with the famed Valerie – she of Valerie’s corner at the BSPCA shop – who has an interesting tale to tell. And former Bahrain resident, Linda Brown-Hague, shared her experiences during Hurricane Harvey. We also heard from Anshu Adrekar about a successful ongoing charity initiative which runs for the third time this month. Being October, it is, of course, Breast Cancer Awareness month and we’re keen to do our bit. Our wellbeing section takes a look at the genetics of the disease and in Month in Focus, there are details for lots of fun events to get involved with. We’ll also be capturing all the action at the BIC for Think Pink’s recordbreaking attempt at creating the world’s longest pink ribbon, so make sure you check out our social media and next month’s issue for lots of pictures of the action. Sticking with the fashion theme, this month’s travel pages take a look at some of the lesser known places to enjoy Fashion Week, and the lovely Anastasia Ageeva, who’ll be a regular contributor from now on, shares her experiences of running some of London’s gorgeous parks – jealous much? Also this month, I was lucky enough to try out the new menu at re/Asian by Wolfgang Puck, and, yes, that too was rather envyinducing and we met the new chef at Bahrain Yacht Club, who’s making a bit of history. Safe to say, it’s a packed edition. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we’ve enjoyed writing it. I’d love to hear your thoughts on our social media pages and website, where you’ll find updates and competitions throughout the month. chairman & publisher GEORGE F MIDDLETON editorial director LIZ O'REILLY contributors APPLE SHARMA BEHNAZ SANJANA PUJA TIWARI RAPHAEL OUIAM CHARKANI EL HASSANI head of digital operations NEIL F VAZ print production manager SABU SEBASTIAN layout & graphics ROMEO SAN MIGUEL JAYATH TEKI media coordinator SARAH ANSARI media managers FARHEEN AHMED circulation and research ROANNA FERNANDES photography editor MONA ABDUL JABBAR photographers RANJITH MOHAN SUBEESH KUMAR NS printing press DAR AKHBAR AL KHALEEJ W.L.L., BAHRAIN Contents copyrighted 2017© Reproduction in whole or in part by any means without the express written consent of the publisher is prohibited.
