6 | November 2012 www.womanthismonth.com Thank you, Woman This Month team, for creating such a concise AW12 trend guide. Unfortunately, we don’t get much in the way of fashion shows or news here, so it is great to have your magazine providing us ladies with ideas of how to dress for the new season. You have shown how on the ball you are! I love the clear way that you outlined the 12 key themes and the range of brands that you included. I particularly liked the black and white contrast page and will be rushing out to buy some similar items myself. Diana, by email. Your article ‘Through the Ages’ featured in September’s magazine was very interesting. I found the dresses and the displays mentioned very alluring and an example of the strength of Parisian fashion. The exhibition seems to be a perfect archive of a woman’s dream wardrobe that marks the six decades of Chloe designs. I think it’s a nice way of giving fans some style inspiration and a history of the brand. Visitors to the exhibition will also get a feel for the brand’s iconic style and a sense of the soft and elegant designs that embody the spirit of Chloe. Anonymous, by email. A Fashionable Show Well done to the Woman This Month team for the awareness article on cancer prevention in ‘The Fight of a Lifetime’. It was very heartwarming to know that Bahrainis and expats, individuals and companies alike are all joining hands to support this well-meaning cause. I have seen cases of different women who succumbed to this terrifying and life-threatening disease. Three of my neighbours were diagnosed; sadly two of them died and the other one survived due to early intervention. One of my old college friends constantly takes medications and fights very hard each day for her survival, but luckily things appear to be looking up. Additionally, my late grandmother had a breast removal procedure and I was so amazed by her strength in facing the consequences. October is cancer prevention month and the ongoing awareness campaign programme ‘Think Pink Bahrain’ has given it new meaning because cancer is not something we need to fear anymore. Your article has provided the right information on how to deal with the big C even before it happens. Awareness about the disease is the key that every woman needs to know to prevent it. Facing our fears is next and then doing what we’ve got to do, such as seeking professional help and undergoing examinations based on what type of cancer one has. The loving support of our families and friends will make the burden a little bit easier. Being healthy is one of our main priorities in living a full life. Nobody ever wants it. But we don't have the answer on why certain bad things happen even to good people. So, being aware about the disease is the first big step. Keep it up, WTM! It can be the beginning of learning how to fight, getting the facts and finding hope. During the month of October, the world is encouraged to consider the life-altering consequences of breast cancer, which affects a scary statistic of one in eight women. It’s a terrifying illness that unfortunately many women fall prey to through no fault of their own, taking mothers, daughters, wives and friends. However, all is not lost. By annually dedicating a month of the year to this type of cancer, women worldwide are made more aware of how they can check for symptoms, receive the correct treatment course and seek the help needed. There are many ways in which doctors claim women can reduce the likelihood of developing breast cancer, just as there are constantly further developments in fighting the disease. And of course the vast support available has shown to be incredibly beneficial to sufferers. In support of these ventures, we have consulted three experts to find out how women can prevent, treat and receive the proper support needed if breast cancer develops. 14 | September 2012 www.womanthismonth.com Feature Through the Ages This month, the most fashionable exhibition of them all is launching in Paris. French fashion house Chloé is marking its 60th anniversary by displaying a range of archive pieces at the Palais de Tokyo. A celebration of its heritage, the exhibition is titled ‘Chloé. Attitudes’ will run from September 28 until November 20. Included will be 70 pieces displaying the different styles, trends and fabrics that Chloé has contributed to fashion culture over the years. Since 1952, its legacy of luxury prêt-à-porter clothing has consistently defined how modern women live. Also on display will be a contemporary capsule collection including 16 iconic pieces from each of Chloé’s nine designers. Signature pieces will be featured — from the Maison’s progressive founder Gaby Aghion, to its present creative director Clare Waight Keller. The show aims to be neither nostalgic nor chronological; instead it takes a thematic path through the very best of Chloé’s creativity, pausing at key moments within its history. Iconic looks are presented alongside lesser-known yet equally influential designs. Most importantly, all are on display to the public for the very first time. The exhibition is presented as part of the autumn 2012 season of the Palais de Tokyo “imagine the imaginary,” which explores the artist’s creative process from thought to creation. This theme is at the very heart of the Chloé. Attitudes concept. The exhibition presents the way in which la Maison Chloé has created an identifiable aesthetic and allure that has influenced women’s fashion. The programme is a fitting context for a 60th anniversary of Chloé that celebrates modern femininity. The gallery’s rough, concrete walls are the perfect foil for the sensual showcase inside.
