Maria Montessori pioneered the Montessori Method of Education early last century. In developing this method of education she combined a philosophy with a practical approach, based on the idea of freedom and independence for the child but within a structured environment. The Montessori Method takes into consideration the child’s physical, intellectual, emotional and social abilities and develops these in a specially prepared environment. What is most unique about the method is the detailed emphasis given to sensorial experiences, developing the five senses and providing a solid foundation for speech, writing and arithmetic. We recognise that children want to learn and it is vital that they are taught how to learn. Through the Montessori method the child will gain this ability, thus creating a solid base on which they can build their future learning. We want to help your child become a balanced, wellmannered and confident individual, and we believe the Montessori education system will give them a flying start at their next school and for life. Why Montessori? Montessori Areas of Learning Early Learning / Practical Life Purpose The lessons of Practical Life develop a sense of and appreciation for order, self-confidence, independence and an ability to concentrate and follow a sequence of steps. The Montessori environment is rich in oral language, listening to stories, reciting poems, singing and talking to others. Pre-reading activities along with Montessori sandpaper letters assist in the development of writing and lead to reading. Each piece of material is self-correcting and allows the child to make observations and assessments of their work. We believe that children who are encouraged to ask questions become confident and independent thinkers. They become creative and innovative leaders. They become life-long learners. * Do you want your child to love to go to school? * Do you want your child to develop a relationship with his teacher that is collaborative, strong and long-term? * Do you want your child’s innate curiosity, imagination and naturally inventive and exploratory instincts to bloom and flourish at his/her own pace? * Do you want an environment that acknowledges the differences in your child’s personality and rate of learning? * Do you want your child in a nurturing environment based on mutual respect, empowerment and selfreliance?
