If somebody asked you to explain 4G, what would you say? If you’re anything like I was this time last month (and you don’t work for a telecom company), I’m guessing probably not a whole lot. All I knew was that: • It’s on every billboard in Bahrain at the moment. • It’s the future of telecommunication. • I may (or may not) have already had it on my phone. In a week’s time, thanks to VIVA, I knew a whole lot more about it. I also rediscovered the joys of online shopping with a superspeedy connection. Yay! So while we’re on the subject of virtual shopping, here are a few of my personal fashion faves. Best fashionable flash At the top of this lovely list is Gilt.com. This ‘first come first served’ site is packed full of designer darlings and is just like a box of chocolates. You never know what you might get. L.A.M.B. today; DVF tomorrow. Best of all, Gilt ships to Bahrain. You’ll pay around BD8 for an average-size package. A girl’s gotta love it! Best designer discount You really can’t go past Shopbop.com. This seriously addictive site features items from hundreds of designers, many at heavily discounted prices. It has a look book, which will put a whole virtual outfit together for you. I also adore the free express international shipping. The last time I bought from Shopbop, my silk Ramy Brook pants were hanging in my wardrobe in Bahrain in less than two days after I’d ordered them online. Funniest fashion fails Of course all that virtual shopping and rushing around from app to app can be absolutely exhausting. So for those times when you just want to kick off your heels, relax and enjoy all things weird and wonderful, you’ll love The Cut on the Runway. This free interactive app allows you to rank your top hits and biggest misses from the runway, and will have you wondering, “OMG, what were they thinking?” What I now know about 4G: • It’s fast! No more waiting around for your page/pants/Prada to load. • It makes online shopping a whole lot more satisfying. • I’m pretty sure that I don’t have it on my phone — yet!
