June 2017 www.womanthismonth.com news 8 What’s on our radar this month? June in Focus As part of its campaign to engage and educate target segments about the recently launched Bahrain Investment Market (BIM), an equity market for growing business ventures in Bahrain and the wider MENA region, the Bahrain Bourse conducted an orientation session for members of the Bahrain Businesswomen Society, which is headed by Feryal Abdulla Nass. Women business owners’ share in the private sector has been trending upwards in recent years. According to the Bahraini Women in Numbers 2015 report issued by the Supreme Council for Women, women held 41 per cent of commercial registrations as of June 2014. The report also found women owned 56 per cent of Bahrain’s sustainable active commercial registrations. The presentation focused on the BIM’s innovative model and numerous benefits which are designed to cater to the needs of companies who are looking to raise capital to fund their future growth. Pop Culture Dig out your cosplay costumes and get ready for some fun at Animania Bahrain – the annual anime, video games, movies, comics and pop culture convention held at Bahrain International Circuit on June 30. The event generally includes video game tournaments, table top and card games, comic bookstalls and a cosplay competition. A number of Middle Eastern artists and game developers also showcase their work at the Kingdom’s largest event celebrating Japanese animation (anime), graphic novels (manga), gaming and pop culture. Life’s a Beach The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain has announced the opening of The Beach Lounge, where guests can enjoy a new dining experience that does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s a beachfront lounge purposely created for diners wanting to enjoy the resort’s gorgeous outdoor scenery. Situated between Kahlo Club and Thai Lounge, the new space is directly on the white-sand beach and will be open every week from Wednesday to Saturday from Eid. Rasha’s Reward We’re very happy to say “Congratulations” this month to Bahrain teacher Rasha Al-Najjar who recently won the prestigious GESS Judges Award 2017 – Education Professional, in recognition of her work as a teacher and efforts to raise youth awareness about conservation and the protection of resources. We interviewed Rasha last year and were very impressed, so it’s no surprise that she caught the eye of judges at the GESS (Global Education Supplies and Solutions) Dubai exhibition and conference, the biggest educational event in the region, who picked just 23 outstanding winners from thousands of entries worldwide. Retail Therapy A major shopping festival aimed at boosting the local economy and attracting visitors from across the region is due to open at Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre (BIECC) on June 1. The biggest event of its kind, this is the first time the venue has been fully booked for five weeks, with the event running through to the third day of Eid. There will be hundreds of retailers and national pavilions from countries such as Kuwait and Egypt offering unique goods and a wide range of bargains.
