August 2020 www.womanthismonth.com 10 BEAUTY | tips Stepping out of your house with gorgeous, styled hair can be quite the challenge, especially if you’re in a rush! To add to the mess, we have to pull, curl, blow dry, straighten or put our hair through some other heat-based styling. The fact of the matter is this – heat styling might get results, but not without doing considerable damage first. So, the WTM team put a few heat-free styles to the test to find out what has us looking our best without the sizzle. RAVISHING RETRO HAIR Few things are better than vintage hair, and the good news is you don’t need to char your locks to get it. Starting off with damp hair, wrap sections of it onto medium foam rollers, securing them at the side of your face. Allow your hair to dry for a couple of hours, then carefully remove the rollers. Once again, remember not to brush your hair, but gently style it where necessary with a fine-tooth comb CHIC FISHTAIL BRAIDS The fishtail braid is effortlessly chic and only really needs some good muscle memory and a reliable hair-tie. Explaining this would be a bit confusing, so you’re best off watching one of the several YouTube braid tutorials like we did. TASTEFUL TWIST BUNS This one is ideal if you have long hair. Twist two small sections of your hair along the side of your face before pinning them at the back of your neck. Now twist your hair up and twirl it into a bun. Secure it in place with bobby pins and you’ve got a great effortless look. WONDERFUL WAVY HAIR Summer is here, so what better way to have some fun in the sun than with luscious wavy hair? To get the ultimate surfer girl hair, without the damage caused by curling irons, start by shampooing and conditioning your hair before letting it air dry until it is just slightly damp. Use a comb to remove any tangles then rub in a hair-texturising product or leave-in conditioner. Next, twist your hair and put it up in a messy bun. Once your hair is completely dry, take down your hair and gently separate the segments with your fingers. If you would like more defined waves, divide your hair into multiple, smaller buns.
