I find the concept of a traditional backyard barbie a bit odd – in a good way. It is certainly something special; kids, adults, all look forward to it. No matter how low-key, it invariably ends up becoming an event, resulting is large quantities of food and a communal experience enveloped in tantalising smoky goodness. The strange part is how it also qualifies as comfort food for so many. The innumerable grill shops around the island are testimony to how much we love our meat on a skewer and what comforts it brings us. Having discussed this topic all day, a colleague and I found ourselves at the recently launched Kolors restaurant in The K Hotel for its barbecue theme night. Kolors is the hotel’s all-day-dining venue and is located where Klouds used to be. Sporting a refreshed look that is bathed in natural light and vibrant colours, the eatery offers an upscale and comfortable ambience. The walls are adorned with paintings and the blank canvas of the restaurant is beautifully punctuated by solid colours. Located at lobby level, it also has a coffee shop extension with a glass display of delicious cakes and desserts. At the buffet the food was laid out in five, neatly arranged sections. The offerings of the otherwise humble grill, at this restaurant are fit for royalty. Though really full, we managed to save some room for dessert which brought this experience to a fitting end. It turned out to be just the right choice for our barbecue dinner as the restaurant has a unique vibe which makes the place very special, yet there’s a sense of familiarity and instant comfort that makes you feel right at home. fish and, towards the other end, were soups and breads, some hot starters and colourful fruits and desserts. The open grill filled the air with delicious meaty aromas, and further fuelled our hunger at the end of a long work day. We headed straight to select our main course as it was to be freshly cooked and served at the table. I chose chicken breast in a fiery red marinade, some dory and chicken in a creamy marinade. My colleague went for lamb chops, spicy beef, dory and creamy chicken. While we were waiting, we chatted over chicken lollypop and a medley of delicious salads; my favourites were potato and chickpea and the cold cut salad accompanied with a refreshing glass of sparking grape The most stellar part of the evening began
